Not every quilt has to be quilted!

The latest creation around here is a new cover for the down comforter. It was done with dark and light scraps in the log cabin pattern, with red/burgundy center squares. I only needed 49 squares, and they came together fairly quickly. The comforter is square, so I just pieced them 7 x 7, sewed it to the muslin backing like a pillowcase, then put a facing on one end that will be buttoned.

The old comforter cover, which was also pieced, had several raveled spots, so it was relegated back to the scrap box. It had served faithfully for many years. In fact, a good portion of the scraps in it were from my maternity clothes worn 24 years ago!
